Our History

Founded in 2011, SC Empowerment Centre is a 501(c)(3) youth-centered nonprofit organization that addresses the increasing challenges youth face living in generational poverty. Serving throughout Laurens County, we hope to reach students from elementary to high school across the county and provide opportunities for them to grow and achieve.

Our Mission

Our History

Our Mission

In South Carolina, one in five children lives in poverty, and estimates show that in Laurens County alone more than one in four children lives in poverty.*

Generational poverty particularly adversely affects a child's educational attainment, health and wellness, and social-emotional development. Here at SCEC, we use evidence-based approaches to support youth and empower them out of the cycle of poverty.
