Founded in 2011, SC Empowerment Centre is a 501(c)(3) youth-centered nonprofit organization that addresses the increasing challenges youth face living in generational poverty. Serving throughout Laurens County, we hope to reach students from elementary to high school across the county and provide opportunities for them to grow and achieve.
In South Carolina, one in five children lives in poverty, and estimates show that in Laurens County alone more than one in four children lives in poverty.* Generational poverty particularly adversely affects a child's educational attainment, health and wellness, and social-emotional development. Here at SCEC, we use evidence-based approaches to support youth and empower them out of the cycle of poverty.
Our vision is that all youth have the support and tools to lead a productive and rewarding life.

Youth Academy and Summer Camps
Designed to support youth during their out-of-school time, these programs include academic tutoring, mentorship, various enrichment activities, and job readiness training. Our programs emphasize educational and workforce development along with social-emotional growth and general wellness.
Basic Needs Assistance
Poverty often means a lack of life essentials such as food and personal hygiene supplies, which can lead to academic and personal limitations. To address these needs, we gather supplies to distribute food boxes, personal hygiene kits, school supplies, and more.
Community Outreach
Throughout the year, we attend and host events, such as our Days of Hope, in the county to foster community and build hope for underserved populations in Laurens County.
